SMU's Fashion Sketching Camp
12:59 PM Tue, May 19, 2009
Jason Sheeler/Reporter

Future illustrators entering grades five through 11 should consider enrolling in SMU's Fashion Sketching Class, offered as part of the university's Summer Youth Programs. Students will learn the basics of drawing fashion figures and garments, working in pencil, pen, marker, pastel and perhaps a mix off all four. All art supplies and materials are included -- magazine tears to use as references and inspiration are required. Click here for details and to see instructor Cynthia Padilla's work (above). The cost of the course is $369 and runs June 8 through 12 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at SMU's Legacy campus.

It might be hard to believe, but the sketches you will see upon visiting the link and scrolling through the class blog, will be that of the kids themselves!!!! Their original designs, their illustrations, their textile designs, color choices, presentation boards, etc.

The college interns, who join us in the Fashion Sketching Camp, are incredulous that these kids are getting the same assignments typical of any university or fashion school.
-Cynthia Padilla, the proud instructor.

I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
