Meet the Teaching Artist: Janet Merritt 2012-11

Jan Merritt has always had a love of teaching, writing, traveling, and art. She received a BA in English with a minor in Communication and a secondary teaching credential from California State University at Fresno. She also received a secondary teaching credential in special education, language arts, and reading from Texas. Ms. Merritt worked 30 years for the U.S. Treasury Department in training development and examination in Fresno, Washington, D.C., and Dallas. After retirement, she taught English and reading for five years at Plano Rice Middle School. She has two sons, Matt (age 34) and Chris (age 21); both live in Plano.

Jan’s love of travel has taken her to Mexico, Great Britain, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Turkey, Italy, and Greece. Her passion for drawing and painting began five years ago with her first of six art classes, taught by Cynthia Padilla. Her preferred medium is pastel. Today Jan writes, draws, paints, creates jewelry, teaches, and volunteers through her church.
